The Cycle of Birth and Destruction of the Five Elements

One of the fundamental principles of Feng Shui is the cyle of birth and destruction of the five elements.

First, the five elements we're referring to here are Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth, which all things in the Universe can be classified into.

Cycle of Birth

The cycle of birth is simply: Fire produces Earth, Earth produces Metal, Metal produces Water, Water produces Wood, and Wood produces Fire and the cycle of birth continues...

To understand the logic of the cycle of birth behind the cycle of birth is rather easy. When Wood is burned by Fire, it produces ashes (Earth). Over years, Earth produces Gold. Under extreme heat, Gold liquifies (Water). Water is essential for the growth of trees (Wood). Hence the cycle of birth.

Cycle of Destruction

The cycle of destruction is simply: Fire destroys Metal, Metal destroys Wood, Wood destroys Earth, Earth destroys Water, Water destroys Fire and the cycle of destruction continues...

Fire melts Metal, and Metal (axe) is hard enough to cut through Wood, Wood absorbs all nutrients from Earth, Earth absorbs Water, Water puts out Fire. Hence the cycle of destruction.
